Ashbury Tor

Ashbury Tor in northern Dartmoor

Ashbury Tor is not on what I call the main moor. It is in the far north near Okehampton and is, in itself, quite unremarkable. So unremarkable that it is not marked on The ordnance Survey maps of the area. However, the views over the East Okement valley and beyond to the Belstone Tors are fabulous.

I visited this tor on a spring afternoon following a walk up the East Okement river and then up the Halstock brook valley. In fact, from the valley you can see some lower outcrops of the tor in the woodland. The bluebells in May are fantastic and it is a very nice walk indeed.
