Great Gnats Head is a hill in southern Dartmoor. There is no tor here but it is visible from quite a distance due to its distinctive summit cairn. The view down the Plym valley towards Little Gnats Head and the Hartor Tors is very rewarding.
I was grateful for the summit cairn as it was a good aid to navigation in a relatively featureless part of the moor. Therefore it made the bagging of this summit somewhat easier than the neigbouring Crane Hill.
Great Gnats Head is close to the Abbots Way path which crosses the moor from Buckfast to Tavistock.
