Winter Tor on Dartmoor is easy to miss. Not because it’s hard to see but because it’s a little off the beaten track. The track in question is the Belstone ridge out of Belstone village towards Oke Tor. There is a long line of tors on the ridge but Winter Tor sits below the path, off to the west, or right, as you ascend the ridge.
My visit was on a Winter’s morning having been to Oke Tor for a sunrise photo session. As luck would have it, it was snowing, lending a certain topicality to my image.
It is a smallish but quite distinct tor which seems to be made up of lots of small rock. A bit like a natural cairn if you like.
